Built by an operator
BioPortal was founded and built by Jason Nockels, a New Zealand entrepreneur and technologist. He built the platform himself, from the database to the interface, after years of watching good testing teams fight their tools instead of getting on with the work.
I built BioPortal because I kept seeing good labs run critical testing on spreadsheets and email. The science was excellent and the admin around it was held together with tape. So I built the thing I wished existed: one place to schedule the tests, capture the results and prove compliance, without the Friday afternoon panic.
